The production of Shelter brought high-intensity action filming back to the River Thames, with key sequences shot at East India Quay, before boat-based scenes moved on to Shepperton Studios.

With a hero boat central to the scene and a tight window for filming, Livett’s supported the shoot with marine logistics, safety provision, and expert boat handling that delivered exactly what the cameras needed.

Here’s how we helped make it happen…

How Livett's made it happen

From the outset, the brief was to provide the production crew with a practical, well-managed riverside location that boasted the instantly recognisable background of The O2. Our base at East India Quay, which we had recently acquired and refurbished, fit the bill perfectly.

We provided marine logistics and operational support for the shoot, including sourcing and transporting the hero boat required for the sequence. This is a vitally important aspect of such shoots – the boat needs to be in place on time, be handled safely, and be ready to repeat movements take after take without disrupting the schedule.

Critically, Livett’s crew also drove the hero boat on screen. And in a high-octane environment, that’s where experience really matters. Tight marks, repeatable manoeuvres, and smooth coordination with camera and safety vessels are what makes marine sequences truly land on screen.

As they always do, our crew delivered precisely controlled driving that enabled the production to get the exact shots they were after safely, consistently, and with all the action expected from a Jason Statham-led thriller!

On the water, we supported filming with two key vessels. Bravo Lima GB was deployed as the camera boat, while Romeo Lima acted as the dedicated safety boat, maintaining a robust safety presence throughout operations.

The first shoot was arranged for February 2025, but was canned due to thick fog around The O2, which compromised the intended shot. When production returned to East India Quay one night in April 2025 for a reshoot, we remobilised efficiently, supporting the team with the same operational readiness and on-water control needed to pick up the sequence successfully.

Following the river work, the hero boat was transported to Shepperton Studios, where filming continued on a gimbal rig. We supported this transition by managing the logistics of moving the vessel into the next phase of production, ensuring it arrived on time and in the right condition, ready for continuation of the shoot.

Ed Livett, Managing Director of Livett’s, said: “Getting the call to help with blockbuster sequences on the Thames is always very exciting. These kinds of all-action shoots demand meticulous precision, especially when a hero boat is the star of the sequence.

“The Livett’s team showcased our versatility when weather affected the initial plans, before delivering exactly what the production crew were after. We are proud to add Shelter to a long list of thrilling big screen projects we have worked on in recent years. We’re looking forward to the next one already!”
