Marine Film Services & Coordination

Livett’s are the go-to experts for all UK and international marine film services and coordination. For over 40 years, we have been trusted to provide the ultimate turnkey service for film and television production companies looking to shoot the perfect scenes on – and sometimes in! – the water.

From rivers and streams to lakes and seas, our experience and knowledge of filming on waterways of all sizes is unrivalled. We are exceptionally proud to have worked with some of the world’s biggest studios and media producers, and have been credited for our marine coordination services in countless Hollywood films and world-famous television shows. We are equally every bit as proud of our work on smaller productions too, such as one-off documentaries and YouTube series.

In addition to the extensive skills and background of our marine coordination team, we also own the most varied and high-quality fleet of any UK-based marine film service provider. This includes several road transportable camera boats, safety boats and action boats – enabling us to provide comprehensive services to productions both nationwide and internationally.

We go wherever you’re filming

Although we are primarily based on London’s River Thames, Livett’s specialist marine film services are available to clients wherever they are needed – whether that’s in the UK, Europe, or the rest of the world.

We have worked on many marine filming projects of all budgets and scales across the globe. Often our marine coordination work is supported by our own fleet of versatile vessels, which makes filming on the water a much more hassle-free experience for clients.

From straightforward establishing shots to complex stunt scenes involving dozens of vessels – and everything in between – we always go above and beyond to ensure the perfect shot is achieved every time, wherever filming takes place.

Livett's Marine Film Services

Thanks to our wide-ranging experience of enabling and delivering successful marine film shoots worldwide, Livett’s can help production teams with every single aspect of filming on the water.

Our dedicated UK, European and international marine film services include:

Marine Coordination

Whether it’s piecing together a dramatic stunt sequence or meticulously arranging a fleet of vessels to get the perfect shot, our incredibly experienced marine coordinators hold the key to shooting successful scenes on water.

Vessel Hire & Boat Wrangling

Our extensive fleet includes an array of high-quality camera boats, safety boats, action boats, drone platforms, speed boats and pontoons. Many of these are road transportable, meaning they can be delivered wherever needed. If additional specialist craft are required for the shoot, Livett’s can source and wrangle these for you.

Drone Filming

Livett’s have been at the forefront of the ever-increasing use of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for filming projects in London and on the River Thames. As such we are one of the most experienced providers of turnkey drone filming services and can utilise this knowledge for water-based drone filming wherever needed.

Diving Services

We have worked extremely closely with the best diving teams in the marine film industry in recent years. Owing to our fantastic working relationship with these, we can provide fully tailored diving services – such as safety swimmers and HSE approved dive teams – to meet your production’s unique requirements.

Location Searches

Securing exactly the right area for a shot – whether it’s on a river, lake, sea, or any other waterway – is critical to any scene’s success. Our team deploys every ounce of more than 40 years of marine filming experience to find and suggest the best locations for filming.

Advice in Gaining Permissions

Any marine filming project requires permissions from relevant authorities and/or governing bodies. Livett’s have decades of experience negotiating and securing marine filming licences with the Port of London Authority and others, and will use these skills to make your plans possible.

Stakeholder Liaison

Whether you’re on a rural fishing lake or city centre river, filming can attract a lot of attention – some of which may be unwanted. To minimise the impact of this, Livett’s will liaise and work with all relevant stakeholders as part of our wraparound marine film support to ensure filming goes smoothly.

Exceptional marine film coordinators with unparalleled experience

Our team of highly experienced marine film coordinators is led by Livett’s directors Chris and Ed Livett. Between them they have over 40 years of marine film coordination experience, working on countless film and TV productions.

This includes some of the biggest cinema releases and TV series in recent years, as well as some of the most complex scenes to ever be filmed on water. Recent well-known examples include:

  • Dunkirk
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming
  • Thor: The Dark World
  • Eternals
  • James Bond: No Time To Die
  • James Bond: Spectre
  • James Bond: The World Is Not Enough
  • Mission: Impossible – Fallout
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Gangs of London
  • Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan

Marine Film Services Case Studies

Hollywood blockbusters, world-famous media franchises, unmissable television, PR launches, TV adverts and even the occasional music video – when it comes to marine filming and coordination, we’ve worked on just about everything.

We have been central to hundreds of film and TV productions on the River Thames – more information on which can be found on our River Thames filming page – but some of the most recent marine filming work we have undertaken away from the River Thames includes:

The Boys in the Boat

We completed over 12 months of work on the George Clooney-directed film The Boys in the Boat. Livett’s oversaw all marine filming coordination and boat sourcing for scenes shot on waterways throughout Berkshire, Henley, Swindon and Reading.

Fast X (Fast & Furious 10)

Livett’s were assigned to work on the latest instalment of one of the world’s biggest and most successful movie franchises. For this we travelled to Portugal to coordinate filming around the Port of Lisbon and River Tagus for scenes featuring one of the film’s biggest stars. The film is due to be released in May 2023.

As part of a campaign launch video for e-cigarette brand Vuse, we facilitated filming of a racing yacht’s journey from the North Sea to Tower Bridge. Our work included procurement and coordination of all support vessels, enabling licenced drone filming, and the booking of a show-stopping Tower Bridge lift once filming reached central London.

Some of the London location filming for epic Marvel movie Eternals took place on the waterways around Camden. For this, Livett’s provided both the vessels and marine coordination needed to ensure filming went successfully on the tight schedule provided, whilst delivering the precise results needed for CGI editing in post-production.
