Imperial Wharf Marina has undergone a significant expansion, extending the marina on its inside lower end to create 1km of brand new moorings.
Livett’s provided the marine civil engineering and logistics behind the build, delivering a project that marks a considerable investment in much-needed additional mooring capacity on the river.
Imperial Wharf Marina is a private marina on the Upper Reaches of the River Thames, offering non-tidal, secure mooring in Central London. Opened in 2011 as the first private pier built on this stretch of the river, it has become one of the capital’s most sought-after mooring destinations. Working in partnership with Inland and Coastal Marina Systems, Livett’s supported a phased construction programme to deliver the extension.
The first phase saw twelve new piles installed in summer 2025, forming the structural foundation for the new moorings. A significant number of new finger pontoons followed in July 2026, completing the extension ahead of its opening in autumn 2026.
Throughout construction, Scheldemond I was essential to the operation, used to place both the piles and pontoons precisely into position. Remus handled the transport of piles and materials to site, while Thames Bosun served as the tug throughout the build. Artemis provided safety cover for the duration of the works, ensuring the project ran safely from the first pile to the final pontoon.
The result is a major expansion of one of the Thames’s best-known marina facilities, adding a kilometre of new moorings and reinforcing Imperial Wharf Marina’s reputation as the go-to, non-tidal mooring destination in Central London.
