Anatomy of a Scandal
BETTER BY WATER
When: March 2021
Where: The Serpentine, Hyde Park
This was a filming job with a difference, as we took our marine filming expertise from the River Thames to one of the busiest tourist spots in London: Hyde Park’s famous Serpentine lake.
It was all for a rowing scene in Netflix’s highly-anticipated political drama Anatomy of a Scandal.
Here’s how we helped make it happen…
HOW LIVETT'S MADE IT HAPPEN
We were engaged by the production team working on Anatomy of a Scandal to help plan, coordinate and shoot a key rowing scene on the Serpentine in Hyde Park. To ensure the very best preparation, we worked closely with Fulham Reach Rowing Club throughout the process.
The original plan was to have the show’s star, Sienna Miller, row in the scene herself. We arranged for rowing lessons to be provided at the club, but when filming schedules changed, we instead sourced a stunt double from the club to stand in for Sienna during filming.
Collaboration was key to ensuring a successful shoot, with our marine coordination team working in tandem with Diving Services UK and Marine Filming Services to get everything in place for the production team. Fulham Reach Rowing Club provided the rowing boat, whilst we provided Pioner camera boats and safety boats that best suited the lake. A modular pontoon was also installed as a safe and secure platform for camera crews.
Filming in one of the busiest places in the capital was tricky, but thanks to our team’s adaptability and experience, everything went perfectly to plan. The scene featured in the second episode, with the show going on to become Netflix’s No1 trending series after its launch in April 2022.
Working on this project once again demonstrated why Livett’s are the go-to experts for all marine film services not just on the River Thames, but on waterways of all shapes and sizes.
