river thames filming

The popularity of the River Thames as an iconic filming location in London continues to soar.

To that end it has been a very busy start to 2019 for Livett’s filming team, covering a wide range of productions that will be coming to big and small screens near you very soon.

These varied jobs have allowed us to utilise our full breadth of knowledge across the Thames, covering locations from Richmond to Dartford, as well as employing various different technologies as demanded by film crews.

Take a look at what we’ve been up to so far this year…

A big budget Hollywood animation

Richmond and the Royal Docks were the chosen locations for this highly complex shoot, the basis of which was a coordinated boat chase scene involved 10 different vessels.

With Ed Livett taking on the role of marine coordinator, Livett’s were involved from the very start of this project. Our turnkey solution included finding and deciding upon all filming locations, sourcing the hero boats as well as all necessary support, safety and camera boats, and marine coordination of the scene. In total, over a month’s worth of work went into filming the scenes across different Thames locations.

This Hollywood sequel will hit cinemas in February 2020.

Crime drama television series for Sky Atlantic

river thames filming dartford

Filming for this upcoming serial took place over the course of several days at Dartford. The filming involved the use of the beach at Dartford, and thus the Echo Lima I was the perfect vessel for the scene courtesy of its ability to land on and off the beach. The Eco Cat operated as the camera boat, while Lima Lima was stationed as the safety boat.

In an area where appropriate loading bays are few and far between, our exclusive use of Dartford International Ferry Terminal (DIFT) proved an extremely useful base to prepare the vessels and load camera equipment.

A US cookery show

One of the most famous chefs in the world brought his show to the heart of London, as filming took place at our Butler’s Wharf Pier base and aboard our luxury passenger vessel Dixie Queen.

river thames filming equity

This was part of a sequence designed to highlight the beauty of the city, with hero shots of Tower Bridge and other landmarks taken from the river. Equity was also in operation as a support camera boat, with the scenes set to air later this summer.

RNLI safety campaign

As part of production for an upcoming safety awareness campaign, we assisted the RNLI in filming on Chiswick Eyot, using the Echo Lima I as a camera boat. Given this is a tidal location with no access to the mainland, she was the perfect vessel for the job thanks to her ability to beach and drop the camera crew on and off the island.

Stay tuned to the Livett’s website for more updates and extended portfolios of these jobs in due course.

We offer a wide range of marine services to the film and TV production industry for River Thames filming, no matter the budget or the scale of the shoot. Interested in finding out more? Visit our River Thames filming page for more information.
