Many of the regular activities on the London’s waters are cyclical, and filming on the River Thames is no exception.
Unsurprisingly, film crews prefer capturing the splendour of the capital when the sun is shining and the thermometer is that little bit higher.
And seeing that spring has now sprung, Livett’s have been hard at work helping film crews on a variety of shoots recently. We’ve covered the full range of styles and vessels in our recent jobs, covering Hollywood, Bollywood, TV and advertisements across our varied fleet.
Many of the projects are still in production so we can’t reveal the full details just yet, but here’s a little taste of what we’ve been working on in the last few weeks.
Hollywood movie on the Equity and Thames Limo
For the production of a big-budget Hollywood movie, we utilised the Equity as a camera boat and the Thames Limo as a picture boat on a shoot throughout central London.
This was a particularly interesting shoot as it was originally planned to take place with a drone on the river before a late change of plans. Fortunately, the weather was on its best behaviour and so filming on the boats worked perfectly.
Controlled navigation for the job was permitted by the PLA, allowing us to manage all marine traffic to ensure the film crews got the perfect shot they were looking for around Tower Bridge. The successful day also provided another example of the benefits of boat-to-boat filming.
Bollywood movie on the Erasmus
Our luxury three-deck passenger vessel Erasmus was chosen to host a scene for a Bollywood movie. Highlighting her great versatility, her open top deck acted as a floating restaurant while showing off the capital between Tower Bridge and Westminster.
The crew on the day was over 100 strong and illustrated our capabilities of managing such a large-scale production effectively on the River Thames, as the shoot turned out to be a great success.
This Morning on the Edwardian
Following the surprise announcement of the 2017 General Election, we received a last-minute chartering of the Edwardian by ITV magazine show This Morning to open the show live on the River Thames the following day.
With Westminster being the key part of the story, the only way to capture it so effectively was by boat – and the Edwardian offers the best option for space on the upper deck for picturesque views, with enough room to host the camera crew and guests.

The production of this advert for a well-known bank took place on the Lima Lima I in Dartford and revolved around the QE2 Bridge.
This particular job highlights how Livett’s are capable of successfully managing projects and location services across the length of the river, including the lower reaches of the Thames. The Lima Lima I was also the perfect camera boat as she is able to travel down to these places in quick time.
As you can see, the River Thames filming season is well and truly under way, and the spectrum of projects we’ve managed recently highlights the range of services Livett’s can offer in regards to marine filming. Expect much more to come throughout 2017!
