Livett’s was proud to support filming for Fightland, a gripping crime drama set against London’s boxing scene.

For the production’s dramatic River Thames scenes, Livett’s provided access to Durham Wharf, expert marine coordination, marine safety services, support with the necessary permissions and licences, and one of our vessels, Alfie, which appeared on screen as a hero boat.

Filming involved a number of sequences on and around the river, including scenes featuring an exploding and burning vehicle.

How Livett's made it happen

When a production requires a controlled Thames-side filming location in London, Durham Wharf offers a rare combination of space, privacy, access and operational flexibility.

For Fightland, the location was especially important. The script called for a special effects sequence involving a vehicle explosion and fire – the kind of scene that is simply not possible at many London locations.

Durham Wharf provided the production with a fully controlled environment where the scene could be planned and delivered safely, while still retaining an authentic industrial riverside feel.

The site was also used for scenes involving the discovery of a body off the jetty, making full use of Durham Wharf’s direct river access and working Thames backdrop.

Alongside providing the location, we delivered the marine coordination needed to make filming on the Thames run smoothly. This included supporting the planning of river-based activity, helping secure the relevant permissions and licences, and providing marine safety services throughout the shoot.

Alfie also played a key on-screen role as a hero boat, appearing as a drug vessel on the Thames. A familiar and versatile member of the Livett’s fleet, Alfie was well suited to the production’s requirements, bringing the right look, practicality and presence for the scenes.

As with all filming projects on and around the river, careful preparation was essential. Working on the Thames requires detailed coordination between the creative, technical, safety and permissions sides of a production.

Our extensive experience in filming on the River Thames helped ensure the shoot could be delivered safely, efficiently and in line with the production’s creative vision.

Ed Livett, Managing Director of Livett’s, said: “Fightland is a brilliant example of how the Thames can bring real scale and atmosphere to a production, but achieving those scenes takes careful planning behind the scenes.

“For productions filming on the river, having access to a secure, controlled riverside location makes a huge difference. It gives the crew the space and flexibility they need, while allowing the marine, safety and permissions elements to be managed properly from the outset.

“With Durham Wharf, our fleet and our coordination team, we’re able to offer a genuinely joined-up service that helps productions achieve ambitious scenes on the river with confidence.”
