JAGUAR XE LAUNCH
BETTER BY WATER
When: September 2014
Where: London Eye
Jaguar planned a series of events to launch a new sports saloon, Jaguar XE. The car was designed and built in Britain, and what better way to celebrate than on the River Thames!
This stunt came in two parts. The first was Chris Livett piloting a custom built landing craft that housed the all new Jaguar XE. The car, on board the landing craft, was delivered by helicopter then driven by boat to Battersea before moving onto the Royal Albert Hall!
The second part of the stunt was a live music event, held on a 30m x 20m flat top pontoon. A specially written song, delivered by Emilé Sande, was performed on the barge in front of the London Eye in the middle of the river! The live event was the first of its kind, never before had a stage been built on a barge and live music performed. It was highly successful!
HOW LIVETT'S MADE IT HAPPEN
Livett’s provided a 30m x 20m flat top pontoon, upon which a mobile stage (in articulated lorry form) was reversed onto and unfolded transformer style to reveal a performance stage for Emelé Sande. The barge is capable of taking hundreds of tonnes of weight, which was crucial for this stunt as the pontoon was loaded up with all the necessary equipment that ensures live events go smoothly.
Livett’s provided the towage for this stage up to site, opposite the London Eye, which required careful planning as we only just squeezed through London’s bridges! Furthermore, Livett’s provided the moorings and a ferry service to ensure the production crews could get out to the pontoon every day.
For the actual event, a river closure was planned for the area along with a spectacular pyrotechnic show and a fantastic performance by Emeli Sandé.
This event required a huge amount of marine coordination and consultancy as it was highly ambitious and the pressure was enormous due to the tight time scale and the fact it was live. All in all Livett’s provided everything from high speed camera boats to keep up with the helicopter to full safety cover for the duration of the event.
