Livett’s coordinate the launch of Candy Crush Soda Saga on the Thames

In an unusual production on the evening of Thursday 20th November, Livett’s were involved in coordinating a spectacular launch of King’s new game, Candy Crush Soda Saga.

Pushed by the Sea Challenge II, a barge passed under a lifting Tower Bridge with a giant, ascending, luminous gummy bear on board.

Pop star Nicole Scherzinger launched the ascension of the bear from a boat nearby as Bow Wow Wow’s “I Want Candy” played at full volume for onlookers on the riverbanks to enjoy. The colourful display moved up river through the bridge where it remained near the HMS Belfast for a further few minutes for photo opportunities before heading back downriver.

Planning for the project began in July when Livett’s were approached by the client to help pull off this unusual spectacle. The large and impressive structure was rigged at a location Livett’s had sourced and hired down river, then the Sea Challenge II pushed the barge up to Butler’s Wharf Pier where it would stay alongside the Dixie Queen for the hours leading up to the event.

For show time the Sea Challenge II then steadily took the structure through the bridge while the stunt team were on the barge controlling the display. The Targa was nearby as a safety and camera boat, while the Delta Lima was at her versatile best as another camera boat, getting up close to the barge as it moved upriver. The RIB was ideal for this as she is agile enough to get close to the display yet quickly move out of range of the water jets shooting out of the barge! The tug then immediately turned the barge around and took it back downriver where de-rig took place.

Services provided by Livett’s throughout the project included liaising with the PLA and other authorities, vessel hire and sourcing, bridge lift coordination, health and safety consulting,  towage, location sourcing and general marine coordination throughout.
