As we head towards the halfway point of 2024, we’re reflecting on what a busy year it has been so far on the River Thames.
We’ve had the privilege of working on dozens of projects up and down the river for a wide range of clients.
Although our River Thames stunt filming work has understandably caught the most attention – in particular Sky Brown taking on a floating skateboard half-pipe and Red Bull daredevils making a world-first wingsuit flight through Tower Bridge – we’ve also been hard at work on the marine civil engineering side of things.
Back in February, we shared details of Dart’s involvement on a major demolition project, but there’s lots more we’ve been involved in since.
Currently there are two major marine civil engineering projects we are contributing to.
Expansion of ExCeL London
One of London’s most recognisable event spaces is currently undergoing a major expansion to further enhance its world-class facilities.
In October 2024, a 25,000sqm (270,000sqft) expansion to the east of the current venue will open its doors. This will make the facility Europe’s largest fully integrated conference and exhibition venue.
To assist with the works, we currently have three pontoons out on hire – Dart, P2, and Rover – to McLaren Construction, the contractors overseeing the expansion.
The pontoons are being used to safely house essential equipment and plant at the Docklands site as building works continue apace – as you can see in the video above.
Teddington Lock ramp replacement
Work is continuing on a new ramp at Teddington Lock, which forms part of Richmond Council’s improvement works on the infrastructure surrounding the lock.
Our beaver-style tug Alfie is involved, working for contractors Red7 to deliver equipment to and from the site whilst construction takes place.
The new permanent ramp will greatly improve access to the river and is expected to be completed by mid-October.
We have used the Teddington area for a large number of jobs, particularly for film and TV projects, so we are excited to have the new ramp in action.
Stay tuned to our website to find out more about what Livett’s are up to as we gear up for an even busier second half of 2024!
We offer a wide range of marine civil engineering services on the River Thames, River Medway, and connected south-east waterways. Please contact us with any enquiries or to find out more.
