It’s a momentous year for one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks.
2019 marks the 125th anniversary of London’s iconic Tower Bridge, having been officially opened on 30 June 1894 by the Prince and Princess of Wales – who were to become the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
Ever since its opening, the bridge has played a vital role in the life of London – from the practical benefits of the crossing and the ever-engrossing sight of its raising bascules, through to its stature as one of the world’s most loved and recognised locations.
To celebrate, Tower Bridge is hosting a wide array of events throughout the year, all of which can be seen on their dedicated anniversary page.
Livett’s are exceptionally proud of the close relationship we have forged with Tower Bridge over our many years on the Thames. Our operational base at Butler’s Wharf Pier is just a stone’s throw away and we have had the privilege to use Tower Bridge as the focal point in many of the diverse and exciting projects we have been involved in.
Here are just a few examples…
Olympic Rings
To many, Tower Bridge is seen as the “gateway” to London, so it was inevitable that it would play a vital role in welcoming the world for the 2012 London Olympics. Livett’s were honoured to assist with the transportation and placing of the Olympic rings on Tower Bridge for the Games.

Wonder Woman
Of course, Tower Bridge has played its part in many film and TV productions over its illustrious history. One such recent example is Wonder Woman, for which our specialist craft Scheldemond I was used to film shots of Tower Bridge. These were then digitally altered to make the bridge look as it may have done closer to its opening in 1894!
