Our ever reliable multi-purpose pontoon Dart has safely returned to the River Thames after undergoing extensive refurbishment.
One of the most uniquely-sized vessels on the River Thames – her reinforced steel deck makes her ideal for heavy loads and she can be deployed as a crane barge for cranes up to 120 tonnes in size – Dart has proven to be a crucial cog in the Livett’s fleet since her acquisition in 2011.
Whether it’s hosting a supersized version of Wayne Rooney, removing hundreds of lorry movements from London’s roads during construction of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, or enabling the iconic New Year’s Eve fireworks, Dart has practically seen it all on the Thames.
Her enduring versatility means she has been involved in countless projects in recent years, making her due for more than just a fresh lick of paint.
Dart refurbishment: What’s new
Work carried out during Dart’s refurbishment includes:
- Installation of new hatch lids
- Three-quarters of side shell plating replaced
- Installation of new anodes
- Full repairs carried out across the steel decking
- Fresh new paintwork throughout
Upon the completion of the works, Dart was surveyed by the PLA and had its licence to operate on the river renewed for another six years.
