ABOUT BENNETT'S BARGES
Bennett’s Barges provide sustainable marine logistics solutions in London and the South East. Services include transportation of bulk materials, containers, plant, equipment, loose aggregates and waste for recycling and reprocessing.
A key part of the Livett’s Group, Bennett’s Barges is a joint venture between Chris Livett, Bargemaster to H.M. The Queen, and Aggregate Industries, part of the LafargeHolcim family, one of the biggest construction companies in the world.
This partnership brings many joint strengths, allowing us to offer seamless turnkey solutions for aggregate and materials to serve the construction industry. In particular, our local knowledge and expertise of London and the River Thames is second to none.
Bennett’s Barges’ operational team have a reputation for excellence having coordinated some of the most technically complicated navigational contracts, whilst ensuring a consistently safe and reliable service to many key long-term customers.
AREA OF OPERATION & STANDARDS
Bennett’s Barges operate across all of London’s waterways, including the River Thames, River Medway and the Swale. The City of London originally developed around the transport links of its waterways and today these provide uncongested routes into and within the busy City, allowing for sustainable transportation of bulk cargo, including aggregate.
All craft operatives are appropriately qualified as required by the relevant licensing authorities. All vessels are operated within the Port of London Marine Safety Code and we have achieved full ISM Document of Compliance by the Marine Coastguard Agency.
SUSTAINABLE MARINE LOGISTICS
The Thames is a four lane highway with no bumps, cyclists or traffic lights. It therefore provides a clear thoroughfare for sustainable transportation. The use of barges for transportation can shift thousands of lorry miles off London’s roads, helping ease congestion and the amount of emissions.
As part of our commitment to ever-improving standards and safety, we are completely invested in an apprenticeship scheme to teach the next generation working across our engineering and marine crew. We are also members of the Thames Skills Academy which is dedicated to delivering high quality, cost-effective training to those already employed or those looking to join the maritime sector.
Our commitment to the future is also reflected in our continued investment in new tugs, barges and plant, most recently the building of eight new Tideway Class barges to work primarily on the Thames Tideway Tunnel. This ongoing investment ensures we have the most advanced, efficient and safe fleet on the River Thames.
